Sharyn Sowell's passion for scissors and paper came as a total surprise. While she was a jewelry designer in Los Angeles, the family took their annual fishing trip in California's High Sierras. The children soon grew tired of sitting in a tiny rowboat, so in desperation, Sharyn used her husband's Swiss Army knife scissors to cut up the lunch bags to amuse the boys. They were not impressed but she had fallen in head over heels in love.
Thousands of sheets of paper later, she still adores the challenge of creating something from practically nothing. Her love of paper has broadened to include two antique printing presses and a collection of vintage letterpress type, a haphazard collection of nibs, inks and glues, and an up-to-the-minute Mac.
Sharyn's work has been featured in many media including Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion Magazine, Victoria Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, Bride's Magazine, on the Style Channel and NBC-tv's Evening Magazine, and in museums nationwide.
Today she designs for top manufacturers including Demdaco, CR Gibson, Lenox, Sunrise Greetings, American Greetings, Sterling Publishers, and many more. Her artwork can be found on many products--everything from fabric to gift bags, dishes to greeting cards, rubber stamps and Christmas stockings. She's never worked harder or loved it more.
"Which all goes to prove," says Sharyn, "that real life truly is the best fairy tale!"
